Top Boy returns

Channel 4′s gritty drama ‘Topboy’, is returning for a second season at the end of August. After becoming a ratings success in it’s first season, Channel 4 quickly renewed the award winning drama. With Ashley Walters and Kano returning for the second season, it will be interesting to see how each of their characters have developed since the first season.

Series 1 had us all gripped, not just at the incredible script writing from Ronan Benett, but the amazing cinematography, which helped the show to gain a huge fan base. Many critics questioned the authenticity of the story lines featured on the show, but that was what made the show so special.

Many found it hard to believe that some of the story lines featured on the show where happening no too far from where they live. To others, the show reflected the harsh realities faced by many young people in the UK. Ronan Benett wrote the first series after a 12-year-old boy in his area tried to sell him drugs – he made the age of the boy in Top Boy some years older but the series was met with criticism from publications saying no one so young would sell drugs.

Topboy will be shown every tuesday on Channel 4.
